MAKE DISCIPLES… LIKE JESUS DID*
Go…make disciples!
—Jesus (Matthew 28:19)
Jesus started a grassroots Gospel movement that shook the world 2,000 years ago and continues to grow like a tsunami in many parts of the world today! But not so much here in North America… Why? Could it be because we are overlooking the simple, but profound, kingdom principles that Jesus taught his first disciples?
The principles Jesus presented in the Gospels constitute the basic job description for making and multiplying disciples in fulfillment of his Great Commission…and they still work today! Even better, TCN has captured these basic principles in a new Disciple Making Movement (DMM) training process. The process includes 3 resources: 1) Discipleship: Following the Master (an 8-session group training series); 2) The Discipleship Journey (an 8-session one-on-one training booklet); and 3) Thru the Bible Lessons (an 8-week inductive Bible Study).
In this process, you will learn how to apply the methods that Jesus taught and modeled and start MAKING DISCIPLES…LIKE JESUS DID!
Ready, set, go!
Coaching the Process
*All 3 of the TCN Disciple Making Movement resources will be available for purchase early in 2018, either through our online store or directly from the TCN office. In addition, Pastor Terry Tieman, who has pioneered and tested this process at his own church and in his own community in Memphis, TN, will be available to coach your pastor through the Disciple Making Movement process. However, he will only be able to coach a cadre of 12 new churches in the New Year. Contact him now at [email protected] or call 901-494-7375, in order to reserve him as your coach!
Celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation
One driving force of the Protestant Reformation was the return to God’s Word as the source of Truth, pointing to Jesus our Savior. To commemorate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation, the Atlantic District of the LCMS (a partner District with TCN) is encouraging people to read through the entire Bible over the next year. According to District President Derek Lecakes, this planned Bible reading is a great way to help revitalize God’s people through daily encounters with His life-changing Word. There is even an audio edition, if you just want to listen!
To assist in this study of God’s Word, pastors of the Atlantic District have prepared short questions or key thoughts to stimulate reflective reading. In Lutheran tradition, we prayerfully read Scripture with several questions in mind: What does this mean? and How is this done (in and through me)? The online version of these readings and questions can be found at: http://lutherantools.org/study/2016/05/10/rb-500th
In the picture on the right, Rev. Victor Nelson of Resurrection Lutheran Church, Cairo, New York, is dressed as Dr. Luther, wearing a sign that says, “For a Kit Kat: ‘Who am I? What did I do 500 years ago today?” He gave away an entire bag of candy while he was waiting at the airport and had to go buy more!

HINGES: Opening Your Church’s Doors to the Community
This book is intended to be a primer for church leaders to gain some new insights and learn practices that can enable them to open doors to their community with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We know that Jesus is the only Way into the church, but there are many church doors that lead back out to the community where lost people can still be found. He said, “I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest” (John 4:35). As we obey, He will help us find that ripe harvest in our community and fulfill His purposes for our congregations.
